Clay-bearing alluvial gold plant for Mbeya Region

A mercury-free gravity plant built around a rotary scrubber, which breaks down the clay that traps fine gold. Press Show ore flow to follow the gravel through the plant, one step at a time.

150 m³/h in a single line, built in one go.

The process, step by step

  1. A loader tips run-of-mine gravel into the hopper. The 80 mm grizzly bars reject boulders, which go straight to waste.

  2. The vibrating feeder meters gravel into the scrubber at a steady rate, so the drum never floods or runs empty.

  3. Water and tumbling inside the rotating drum break the clay apart and free the gold. The trommel screen splits the washed gravel by size, and anything over 20 mm goes to waste.

  4. The 0-6 mm slurry, where most of the fine gold sits, is pumped to the centrifugal concentrators. They hold the heavy gold and let the lighter sand pass.

  5. The 6-20 mm fraction runs over the sluices, whose riffles trap the coarser gold and small nuggets.

  6. Concentrates from the centrifuges and sluices are upgraded on the shaking table. The gold then goes to the locked gold room for drying and smelting.

  7. Tailings are dewatered and the water settles through the ponds. Clean water is pumped back to the scrubber, so the plant reuses most of its water.

Two ways to build it

Reaching 150 m³/h

Full Scale Plant, built at once

Build the full 150 m³/h plant in a single line with a larger scrubber, three centrifuges and two shaking tables. It is the lower cost per cubic metre and the simpler operation, and it suits a deposit whose grade and free-gold behaviour have already been confirmed by a bulk sample.

Starter Modular Plant, then a second line

Start with a 75 m³/h line and prove the grade on real production. Once the deposit is confirmed, add an identical second line beside it. The ponds, gold room and control container are built at full size from day one, so the second line connects without disturbing the first. Two independent lines also keep half the plant running while the other is being serviced.
