Makita Angle Grinders: Corded, LXT and XGT, 100–230 mm

Angle grinders cut and grind steel, stone and concrete with abrasive and diamond discs, and are the most used power tool in a mine or plant workshop. Small 100–125 mm grinders suit cutting, deburring and weld preparation; large 180–230 mm grinders cut thicker sections and remove more material. Choose corded for all-day workshop use, or LXT and XGT cordless for work around the plant away from power. These Makita models are available through Bart Mining in partnership with Makita Tanzania.

Corded, Cordless or Petrol: Choosing a Makita Platform

Every main product below runs on one power source. Corded tools give full power for all-day work where mains or generator power is available. 18V LXT cordless tools share one battery system across a very wide range; twin-battery 36V tools use two 18V batteries. 40V max XGT cordless tools deliver close to corded power for heavier work; 80V tools use two 40V batteries. 12V max CXT tools are compact for light jobs. If your site already uses one battery system, staying with it saves buying more batteries and chargers.

In each table, the model is one tool and its options are kit codes: codes ending in Z are usually the tool body only, while longer codes include batteries, a charger and a case. The "What's different" column explains models that share the same headline specification. These tools are available through Bart Mining in partnership with Makita Tanzania.

  • Grinding welds and preparing joints
  • Removing rust and paint before repairs
  • Cutting concrete and stone with diamond discs

Maintenance Schedule

Most premature failures in this equipment class trace back to a missed routine check rather than a design fault. The intervals below are a practical starting schedule; adjust them to your duty cycle and the manufacturer manual.

Recommended maintenance intervals
IntervalTask
Every useCheck the disc for cracks and the guard position; never remove the guard.
WeeklyClean the air vents; check the cable or battery, side handle and switch.
Every few monthsHave brushes on corded models checked and replaced.
As neededUse discs rated for the grinder’s speed and size.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which size grinder do I need?

115 or 125 mm for most cutting and grinding in a workshop. 180 or 230 mm for cutting thick sections and heavy grinding. Many workshops keep both.

Paddle or slide switch?

A paddle switch stops the grinder as soon as it is released, which many sites require for safety. A slide switch can lock on for long grinding. Check your site rules.

Are cordless grinders powerful enough?

The 40V XGT models are close to corded 1 000 W class grinders and suit most maintenance work. For all-day heavy cutting, corded large grinders are still the standard.
