Makita Metal Cutters and Cut-off Saws

Cut-off saws and metal cutters make straight, square cuts in steel sections, pipe and bar. Abrasive cut-off saws are fast and simple; cold-cut metal saws leave cleaner, cooler cuts with fewer sparks; cordless cutters bring the cut to the job. They are core workshop tools for repairs, fabrication and installation. These Makita models are available through Bart Mining in partnership with Makita Tanzania.

Corded, Cordless or Petrol: Choosing a Makita Platform

Every main product below runs on one power source. Corded tools give full power for all-day work where mains or generator power is available. 18V LXT cordless tools share one battery system across a very wide range; twin-battery 36V tools use two 18V batteries. 40V max XGT cordless tools deliver close to corded power for heavier work; 80V tools use two 40V batteries. 12V max CXT tools are compact for light jobs. If your site already uses one battery system, staying with it saves buying more batteries and chargers.

In each table, the model is one tool and its options are kit codes: codes ending in Z are usually the tool body only, while longer codes include batteries, a charger and a case. The "What's different" column explains models that share the same headline specification. These tools are available through Bart Mining in partnership with Makita Tanzania.

Frequently Asked Questions

Abrasive or cold-cut saw?

Abrasive saws are cheaper and cut most steel quickly but produce sparks and heat. Cold-cut saws leave cleaner cuts with less heat and fewer sparks and cost more per blade.

What is the difference between LW1400 and LW1401?

Both are 2 200 W, 355 mm saws. The LW1400 adds tool-less wheel changes and guide adjustment; the LW1401 is the basic version.

When should I use a cordless cutter?

For cuts away from the workshop or in tight spaces, such as bolts and small bar on installed equipment.
