Maintenance Schedule

Frequently Asked Questions
LED or metal halide?
LED. Fuel use is roughly half, lamps last many times longer, they start instantly (no cool-down), and they tolerate voltage dip from a small generator. Metal halide is cheaper to buy and still common, but on a Tanzanian night shift the fuel saving pays for LED quickly.
How many towers does a pit need?
Enough that working areas meet a design lux level, not “it looks bright from the office.” As a starting point, one tower per loading face plus one on the dump and one on the pad. Shadows behind machines are where people stand. Place towers so operators are not looking into the lamps.
Can I just use vehicle headlights?
No. Headlights move, glare, and leave the rest of the pit dark. Almost every night-shift collision and fall on a small mine happens in the dark patch just outside a headlight beam. Designed lighting is a production tool as well as a safety one — cycle times improve when the dump is actually visible.
