What Independent Mining Consulting Delivers

Independent consulting gives owners, investors and lenders a technical view with no financial stake in the answer. A contractor selling drilling metres, or a vendor selling a plant, has a reason to see the project a certain way. An independent advisor's only product is the assessment. Bart Mining's engagements are led by the principal, not delegated to a junior with a template: the person who reviews your data is the person who signs the report.

Technical Advisory

Technical mining advisory covers the decisions between a first drill result and a producing mine. Typical questions clients bring:

  • Is the geological model defensible, or does the grade depend on a few high-value intercepts?
  • Open pit, underground, or both, and at what depth does the switch make sense?
  • Gravity, CIP, CIL or heap leach for this ore, and what test work proves it?
  • Is the capital and operating cost estimate realistic for Tanzanian logistics, power and labour?
  • What does the regulator need before a licence upgrade or mine opening?

Advisory can be a one-off review, a board-level independent opinion, or a retained technical role through construction.

Technical Due Diligence for Investors

Technical due diligence (TDD) is required before acquiring, financing or investing in an exploration or mining asset, whether a direct purchase, joint venture, royalty, stream or loan. Bart Mining carries out TDD for investors and acquirers. A thorough review covers:

  • Geological database validation and QA/QC review (collars, surveys, assays, blanks and standards)
  • Independent review of the resource estimate, or full re-estimation where the original does not hold up
  • Mine plan, schedule and dilution assumptions
  • Processing route, recovery claims and supporting metallurgical test work
  • Capital and operating cost benchmarking
  • Licence, tenure and regulatory status
  • Environmental and closure liabilities
  • Management team and technical capability
The most common finding. A resource that looks robust on paper often rests on a database nobody has checked: missing QA/QC, unsurveyed collars, or composites that mix sample lengths. Database validation comes first because every later number inherits its errors.

Resource Estimation: JORC and NI 43-101

Resource estimates for listed companies, and for anyone raising institutional finance, must follow a recognised reporting code. The two most used in Africa are the JORC Code (2012), the Australian standard widely accepted by international financiers and exchanges, and NI 43-101, the Canadian standard required for TSX and TSX-V listings. Both require a named Competent Person (JORC) or Qualified Person (NI 43-101) to take responsibility for the estimate.

Bart Mining's resource estimates are prepared and signed by a Competent Person. A compliant estimate includes:

  • Database validation: collar and downhole surveys, assay QA/QC
  • Geological modelling: domaining and wireframes built from logged geology, not grade shells alone
  • Geostatistics: compositing, top-cutting, variography
  • Grade estimation: Ordinary Kriging where the data supports it, with validation against drill holes
  • Classification: Measured, Indicated and Inferred, based on geological continuity and data spacing
  • Reporting: a JORC Table 1 or NI 43-101 technical report with the Competent Person's sign-off

Scoping, Pre-Feasibility and Feasibility Studies

Mining studies move from "is this worth more work?" to "can this be financed and built?". Each stage narrows the cost accuracy and needs better resource confidence. Bart Mining prepares and manages studies at every stage.

A mining scoping study is the right first step for most small and mid-size projects in Tanzania: it is quick, inexpensive relative to drilling, and tells you whether to spend on infill drilling and metallurgical test work. Underground and Coal Mining Consulting

Underground mines fail on different problems from open pits: ground control, ventilation, dewatering, hoisting capacity and escape planning. Bart Mining advises on underground metal and coal operations, covering:

  • Mining method selection (room and pillar, longwall, sublevel stoping, cut and fill)
  • Development design, scheduling and production rate
  • Ventilation and gas management, including methane in coal mines
  • Ground support and geotechnical review
  • Dewatering and pumping
  • Emergency escape, refuge and self-rescuer planning
  • Coal resource estimation and quality (ash, volatiles, calorific value)

Equipment for these operations, including ventilation fans, dewatering pumps, SCSR self-rescuers and gas detection, can be specified and supplied through the same team.

Geological Data and Exploration Programmes

Good consulting starts with good data. Bart Mining designs and manages exploration programmes so the data they produce will stand up in a resource estimate and a due diligence review later:

  • Target generation from geological survey, geophysical and geochemical data
  • Drill programme design: hole spacing, RC vs diamond core, sampling protocols
  • QA/QC programme design and assay laboratory management

How an Engagement Works

  1. Initial call. The project, the decision you need to make, and the data that exists.
  2. Data review and proposal. A fixed scope, deliverables, timeline and fee, before any commitment.
  3. Site visit. Core, pits, workings and the plant, where relevant. A Competent Person sign-off requires one.
  4. Analysis. Estimation, modelling, costing or review, with findings shared as they emerge.
  5. Report. A clear report written for the decision it supports, whether a board, an investor, a lender or a regulator.

A desktop review typically takes 2–4 weeks. A resource estimate or scoping study is typically 6–12 weeks, depending on data quality.
