Frequently Asked Questions
When do I need a cone crusher as well as a jaw?
When mill feed must be finer than about 40 mm, or when you are making aggregate. A jaw at a tight CSS loses capacity and wears fast. The economic split is jaw for primary, cone for secondary. Small gravity plants feeding a wet pan mill sometimes skip the cone; CIL and ball-mill circuits almost never should.
What is CSS on a cone crusher?
Closed side setting: the smallest gap between mantle and concave at the bottom of the chamber. It is the main product-size control. Tightening CSS makes finer product, lower throughput and faster liner wear. Set it from the screen or mill’s required feed, not from habit.
Why must liners be replaced as a pair?
Because the crushing chamber is a designed shape, not two independent wear parts. A new mantle in a worn concave (or the reverse) changes the nip angle, cuts capacity and can pack the chamber. Replace both, and keep a spare set on a Geita-class abrasive ore.
